Merit criteria
During the last EXCO meeting in December 2007 it was decided to make final adjustments to the system employed for determining the junior merit lists. Allow me to share these changes and the new system with you.
Points gained. Members will gain points for every approved tournament they play in accordance to their performance. The accumulation of points is then averaged by the number of games played, sorted and players are given ranking points from the most the least points.
Tournaments played. Players receive 1 point for every tournament they play. The accumulation of points is then sorted and players are given ranking points from the most the least points. It is imperative to note that players must play at least 80% of the tournaments selected.
Disciplinary issues. During each tournament the EXCO and appointed individuals will sight players that are in breach of the player’s code of conduct. After consultation with players and if and when disciplinaries are required, players will be penalised at the given tournament with 4 points for each misconduct. The penalties incurred will remain in force for the duration of the player’s affiliation to the Namibia Junior Golf Foundation. Should a player get 3 penalties, the Foundation reserves the right to suspend the players from Foundation and NAGU tournaments.
Stroke average. Strokes played on different tournaments are averaged and the stroke average of players are then sorted and given ranking points from the lowest to the highest average.
Ranking. All the points and ranking points accumulated are then sorted. The players with the least ranking points accumulated hold the no. 1 spot on the merit list. In the case that 2 players have the same ranking points, the player with the most points accumulated will be given the benefit of the doubt.
Bonus system. The foundation further decided that they will award bonus points to players that excel and it should act as a condiut to inspire players. Average score for a tournament under 80 = 10 bonus points Average score for a tournament under 75 = 15 bonus points Average score for a tournament under par = 20 bonus points
Tournaments The Foundation has grouped tournaments to ensure that players that do not have the means to play all the tournaments are not penalised. With effect from 2008 the under mentioned tournaments are selected for the Foundation’s merit list:
NAGU : Central Open; Swakop Open; Namibian Open; Windhoek Open; Gold Cup; Rossmund Open
Junior Tournaments: Windhoek Junior Open; Rossmund Junior Open; Namibian Junior Open
Criteria for team selection and colour awards
Due to the different formats being played with the different events the foundation participates in, different criteria is used to select teams. Below are the selection criteria for the different tournaments and awards:
All Africa Junior Golf Challenge
This is a U/19 stroke play tournament, played over 4 rounds. The top African countries normally participate and players are subjected to immense pressure. To ensure we properly develop, support and protect our players the following criteria will be used for team selections:
Stroke average = 70% weight Discipline = 20% weight Skill points accumulated = 5% Total points awarded = 5% Age deficit = 1 penalty point per year younger than 18
Tri-Nations replacement tournament
This is a U/19 & U/16 tournament played over 3 days with the different formats of match play involved. The merit list will be divided in the 2 age groups and the players will be selected from the merit list; top 4 -5 players on each list.
It’s imperative to understand that the U/16 players will only receive development colours and not national colours due to the age restriction on receiving national colours. Where players excel, exceptions are made in consultation with the Sports Commission.
Triangular tournament
This is a local tournament hosted by the Junior Foundation. The team to be selected for this event will be the top 8 players on the updated merit list closest to the tournament date. Should injuries and or players be unavailable, they will be replaced in order of merit.
Tour Cup Colours
For 2008 the foundation has allocated 4 tournaments in which players should play to qualify for their foundation colours. Should players for some reason not be able to play in specific tournaments it’s the players and or parents responsibility to motivate in writing to the EXCO of the foundation why the individual should be credited with such tournament? The EXCO reserves the right to decline such request. |
